The team was left in shock at the sight of the dog suffering from an enormous tumor, despite having witnessed distressing situations in the past.

The Weimaraner had a tumor that was so large and heavy that it hindered his ability to walk before he was rescued. His name was given as Gilbert Grape but it’s not known how he managed to survive for so long without medical attention. He was given pain relief, antibiotics, and an IV catheter.

The medical team conducted an ultrasound and carefully examined his blood and urine. It was deemed necessary for him to undergo a blood transfusion procedure. The tumor was brought to the attention of veterinary professionals once he was under their care.

Tickled Pink did not want to prolong Gilbert’s suffering, so they had the choice of either performing a surgery or putting him to rest in a humane way. The Weimaraner rescue organization initiated charity efforts and raised ₤4,300 to cover the expenses of the life-saving operation that Gilbert underwent. After a year, Gilbert is now happily beaming alongside his new owner, Scott Roberts, following the successful removal of his 12lb benign tumor.

He needed to recover his stamina as he had lost a considerable amount of muscle while trying to compensate for the increase in size.

In the area, there is a plan in place that authorizes nationally recognized rescues with pre-approval to take in animals after receiving medical clearance. However, if an animal is found wandering, the shelter’s protocol is to hold them for 72 hours without any screening in hopes of reuniting them with their owner. Gilbert, specifically, has made a remarkable recovery after undergoing surgery to remove a tumor.

To sustain his life during the crucial treatment, Gilbert had to undergo blood transfusions and have an IV catheter inserted. Prior to being adopted, he went through several months of physical therapy to recover his lost muscle mass. Ultimately, Scott took in the brave grey canine as his own and gave him a loving home where he could begin anew.
